Questions regarding Step 3 of USMLE?
See the FAQ at the Federation of State Medical Boards website.
Q: What "state" should I apply through to take the USMLE step 3?
North Carolina (because I am in training here) or the state I intend to go to following residency?
What are the pros and cons of each "choice"
A. There really are no pros and cons. A physician can apply to any state that he or she meets the eligibility requirements for. Registering to take USMLE Step 3 in a particular state does not restrict them to a certain state. It only means that the physician is using a certain state’s requirements to apply for the Step 3 examination. Once the physician passes the examination (Step 3), the physician can apply for licensure in any state.
